Minority students now constitute 27 percent of the ASU West student body, with 1,155 Hispanics representing the largest single group.

This spring, 7,068 full and part-time students attend the west campus, including 1,920 minority students.

Direct and indirect recruitment efforts continue to target minorities in part in response to concerns about recent tuition increases affecting access.

The University has boosted financial aid for low-income students. In addition, the number of scholarships for low-income Arizona residents increased from 150 to 300.

Associate Vice President of Academic Programs and Graduate Studies Fernando Delgado said, "With tuition increases it may scare students initially, but the raise gives more resources for financial aid and student support."

In an additional effort to recruit minority students, ASU West has diversified its campus student recruiters.

Recruiters currently visit more than 35 West Valley high schools and strategically target first-generation, low-income students.

ASU West has also begun to use radio, print and movie theater spots to target Arizona's minorities.
