Four ASU graduate programs were nationally ranked this year by U.S. News and World Report, and two of them improved those rankings.
The College of Education ranked higher than any other ASU graduate program, placing 22nd among education graduate schools across the country. The education college's previous ranking was unavailable.
The W. P. Carey School of Business placed 29th in the nation, eight spots higher than it was in 2003. It placed ahead of UA's Eller College of Business, which ranked 35th on the list released Friday.
Faculty and students in the school of business are pleased with "another solid performance" in the U.S. News and World Report rankings, said Dennis Hoffman, associate dean.
The rankings reflect the hard work of the people already involved with the program and will attract more high caliber students, he added.
"Rankings are among the most important factors that students use when they select graduate business programs," Hoffman said.
The Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering also improved in the rankings, moving to 50th place from its 56th spot last year.
The engineering school is tied with the engineering programs at Brown University and the University of Notre Dame, but is three spots behind UA's engineering school.
The College of Law maintained a 53rd spot, tied with Cardozo-Yeshiva University in New York and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. The law program came in behind UA's James E. Rogers College of Law, which placed 43rd.
U.S News and World Report based the rankings on program quality, job-placement success, student selectivity, research activity and faculty resources.
