The ASU men's lacrosse team lost to their biggest rival Saturday night, the University of Arizona Wildcats, 11-3.

It was the Sun Devils final game of the season.

"They're a good team," said Ethan Furtek, Senior Goaltender for the Devils. "But, we played these guys in the fall and they beat us a lot worse."

Arizona came into the game ranked No. 6 in the country.

The loss snapped a four-game win streak for ASU. Their last defeat came on March 12.

The Wildcats established the momentum early in the first quarter as they jumped to a 3-0 lead. But, ASU responded with Junior Nick Cicchetti scoring the last goal of the quarter to make it 3-1.

ASU Head Coach Jon Minder said the team settled down after the first few minutes.

"After the first couple of possessions our defense really started playing better," he said. "We're a young team, but we're getting better every year."

Arizona scored the only two goals of the second quarter to take a 5-1 lead going into the half. Goalie Ethan Furtek kept it close with several difficult saves.

Furtek ended the game with 18 saves on the night.

"It was tough," said Furtek, a finance major. "We're still a program that's developing."

In the third quarter sophomore Paul Komar added a goal for the Devils, but Arizona put two goals in the net to take a 7-2 lead.

Nick Cicchetti added his second goal of the night in the fourth quarter for ASU, but Arizona added four more goals.

Minder said the team had a lot to look forward to next year.

"It hurts to lose the seniors, but we've got plenty of guys to reload with," he said. "We'll have a top tier schedule next year and a lot of young talent."

Jeff Pilon and Paul Komar each had an assist for ASU.

Adam Paris and Greg Polheber each had three goals for the Wildcats, who next play in the division playoffs.

ASU ended the season with a record of 7-7.

Furtek said the team was showing improvement every year.

"Two years ago we were 1-10. Last year we were 5-9. This year we were 7-7," he said. "Every year we're getting a lot better."

The game was played at Gilbert High School in Gilbert. Over 100 people, the Sun Devils largest home crowd of the season, watched the game.
