Brief: ASU to join with Mayo Clinic

ASU and the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale will combine research and clinical expertise under a new partnership, said ASU President Michael Crow.

The Mayo Clinic is a treatment and educational facility that sees about 100,000 patients a year. As ASU's partner, it will open up its faculty and facilities to students, allowing them to learn in a real-world environment.

"[This partnership] will provide a unique opportunity for medical professionals to translate their knowledge and leadership to clinical practice, research and education," said Mayo Dean Dr. Anthony Windebank.

Crow said the two institutions will contribute equal funding and host joint educational programs, sharing faculty and graduate students.

"This new agreement will help us better serve our communities through medical, clinical and educational advances, and it will allow us to better serve the region and nation," Crow said.

Last year, ASU and Mayo signed an agreement to advance specific areas of research, including neuroimaging, receptor biology, microdevices and vaccine development. (AP)
