A fresh art gallery is opening in Phoenix this Friday on the eclectic Grand Avenue, the place to be for music, art, and something a little unco.
Sheila Bocchine, who has her undergraduate degree in photojournalism from Columbia College, Chicago, and her masters in art and cultural management from Pratt University in New York, directs the gallery. She came to Arizona to open up a gallery with co-director Gary Millard.
Millard has traveled all over the world to shoot photography that will contribute to the gallery. It will consist mainly of large black and white prints, Bocchine said.
There is a theme to the gallery, 'Billionaires for Bush,' a satirical political group.
Boccine and Millard are looking for musicians and poets who are interested in contributing their artistic expression to the gallery. There are a number of galleries on the block with new spaces opening up in the beginning of October.
The gallery will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1. It is located at 1023 Grand Ave. in Phoenix and has a cafe inside. The exhibition will commence with jazzy sounds from Mike Broyles on the piano, an ASU sophomore and member of local band, The Funkyard.
"The main point of the gallery is to bring together different forms of art, including fashion, poetry and music," Boccine said.
