Over Thanksgiving weekend there was really only one thing I wanted to carve up -- a weary, tattered and unranked Wildcat nation. Just the opposite happened, however, when UA showed up to play and stuffed ASU's No. 18 ranking right down the gobbler.
It might seem like I'm rubbing in Friday's 34-27 loss, but the truth is, some good can come from it.
The most important contests in college football don't begin with Tostitos or end in dot-com; they are the rivalry games. Everyone tunes into Ohio State vs. Michigan or Texas vs. Texas A&M because of the rich history. The Territorial Cup, which dates back to 1899, is just the same, but the last few years have been lacking.
Before Friday the Sun Devils defeated the Wildcats four out of the last five years, and things seemed to be getting stale. ASU has been given a reason to care again and come next November, you can look to the Sun Devils to cough up this foul hairball all over our intrastate rivals. Lick it up Wilbur.
