ASU grad turns 'apprentice'

An ASU graduate is competing for an office in the Trump Towers along with 17 other contestants on NBC's "The Apprentice 3" this season.

Stephanie Myers, 29, graduated from ASU with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management from the school of business in 1997.

"While at ASU, I really learned strong negotiating skills. I believe in order to be successful you need to be a great negotiator. People negotiate every day, whether at home or at work," Myers said.

While Myers learned negotiating skills at ASU, she learned that she should "only speak when spoken to" from Donald Trump.

Myers calls Trump her idol and described him as "bigger than life itself."

As far as becoming a star, Myers has not had a difficult time dealing with her new status as a celebrity and finds it easy to blend in with all the other stars in her California residence.

ASU professor Joseph Carter, supply chain management department chair, was one of Myers' professors.

Carter and Stephanie have kept in touch since she graduated and Carter, an avid "Apprentice" watcher, said he was not surprised when she told him of her success via e-mail.

"She was that type of person. She was intelligent, she was successful in school and she had an effervescent personality," Carter said. "She could interact with people well and get things done.

"I think Stephanie's role on 'The Apprentice 3' is great. I think it's great for the program and it's great for ASU. It really shows that we're putting out some graduates that are the best in the country," Carter said.

Myers' advice for students interested in applying for "The Apprentice" is, "You must be very confident in who you are both personally and professionally. You must not sell yourself short, but be committed to your decisions and actions. Most of all enjoy the experience and have fun."
