As I drove to campus last Monday morning (more worried about my upcoming midterm than the chocolate and flowers that would empty my wallet later in the day) I looked up at 'A' Mountain and was surprised to witness a pink version of our beloved gold 'A' that normally graces the hillside.
I forced a smile for the creativity and festiveness of the unknown 'A artists,' as well as the ingenious decision to celebrate Valentine's Day with the color pink, as opposed to the more popular red (which should, by law, never be allowed to come within 50 feet of our gold masterpiece, along with the color blue).
...Now, three days later, I'm still making the same drive to and from campus, yet the only thing that has changed about the drive is the level of gas in my tank. It's Feb. 17 and there is still a 60-foot, pink 'A' gazing down at me.
What happened to our courageous 'A Team,' keeping 'A' Mountain safe from all opposing vandals, fighting for truth, justice and the American way? Or at least upholding the ASU urban legend that, if painted, our 'A' will be back to Sun Devil Gold within 24 hours?
...A Team, I know you're out there somewhere. Come to our rescue and return the 'A' back to its true color.
