With a talented, haunting voice and enchanting original composition, Jennifer Yeung's Contemplate weaves a world of magic and wonder. Listening to her debut CD, which includes five songs, my mind was filled with an image of a snowy, dead forest glistening in the pale sunlight, waiting patiently for spring to come.
Contemplate is a moving collection of her natural, growing musical abilities. These five songs are heartwarming and chilling at the same time. They touch the heart and soul, leaving you feeling astounded as you contemplate, as the title indicates, your life and the world you live in.
Jennifer Yeung grew up in Toronto, Ontario and started playing the piano when she was 6 years old. She played classical music as she grew up, and her talents
began to blossom.
It's hard not to find yourself lost in the stories on the disc, slowly ebbing away from the safe harbor of your body and into the depths of Yeung's sorrow and pain.
She achieves this effect especially well with "The Emperor's Daughter." No matter what you are doing, when this song comes on, you suddenly could find yourself watching this beautiful princess standing on a cliff with the sun at her back, telling her tale of love and despair.
Her song "Love You Forever," dedicated to friends who have tragically died, especially moved me. My heart sank when I heard the lyrics. But for those who have lost someone, this song offers much-needed reassurance that the pain of separation will not last forever and that one day, loved ones will be reunited with one another.
Yeung's CD is being sold through her Web site at www.jenniferyeungmusic.com. The site includes samples of yet-to-be-released songs and the dates of some of her next performances.
I hope Yeung's talents aren't lost to the wind. The world is in much need of music like hers.
