Gammage receives $2 million donation

Gammage Auditorium recently received a $2 million donation, from patrons Richard and Rae Love for the general improvement of the building, ASU officials said.

"It's the largest single gift ever in the history of Gammage," said David Harrison, director of communications for ASU public events. The lobby was renamed the Rae and Richard S. Love Lobby in honor of the donors.

The building, which was built in 1964, needs additional women's restrooms in the lobby, structural repairs inside and out and updates to the sound and lighting systems, Harrison added.

Harrison said improving the sound system and expanding the women's restrooms are the top priorities for renovation. "Both of which are multi-million dollar projects," he added.

He did not know when renovation would begin because "it is an ongoing process as funds become available."

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation must approve of any structural changes to the building, in order to maintain the original design, Harrison said. He added ASU will consult with the foundation throughout the process.
