Students to get relief from sweaty journey

Dorm residents' annual trek in the August heat is about to get a lot cooler.

Sparky's Move-In Day will bring together several move-in activities inside air-conditioned Wells Fargo Arena.

"We've taken 13 stops and moved them into one air-conditioned building," said Cassandra Aska, assistant director of Student Life.

"One-stop shopping is what we're after here," added Deborah Sullivan, director of Student Life.

Move-In Day is held for incoming freshmen to register their living spaces for the upcoming semester, as well as set up necessary services.

"When students go into Wells Fargo, they will have the opportunity to get mailboxes through UPS, parking, and keys," Sullivan said.

The event, organized by Student Life, has been centralized in the stadium at Sixth Street and Stadium Drive. Students will enter through the east entrance and move clockwise, registering their dorms, followed by their mailboxes, then parking spaces.

Before exiting the arena, students can stop by the "partner showcase," an area where sponsors of Move-In Day, such as Dell, US Bank, and ASU Bookstore, will be set up.

Sullivan says the event will feature a variety of introductory programs like Sun Devil 101 and Parent Transitions, and will also feature aspects of Student Life such as the Interfaith Council.

The biggest change, which Sullivan said she is most excited about, is the obvious one.

"It's in air conditioning," Sullivan said. "That will be a highlight."

Sparky's Move-In Day will be held Aug. 17.
