Letters to the editor: Under God or not?

Reciting 'under God'

In response to, "Should the words 'under God' appear in The Pledge of Allegiance and be said in schools?" I would say: Of course.

Then if you believe in God, you can say it. And if you don't believe in God, you don't have to say it. Because, if you do say it without believing in God, the God you don't believe in will come down and crush your skull.

Wall of separation more than a myth

This is in response to Jacques LeMaitre's comment about the church and state "myth." She clearly doesn't have a basic understanding of how the Constitution works.

Just because something is absent in the actual document doesn't mean that it cannot exist as a law. We call these additions "amendments." And our very first one talks about a need for the government's absence in religion.

When the Supreme Court interprets this amendment (The Lemon test, no student-initiated prayer in school) then the church/state belief becomes more than a myth.

It becomes a law.

Ms. LeMaitre should also note one more thing that never appears in the Constitution: the word God.

Christian values embedded in our country

As for separating church and state so that "no person's religious freedom is interfered with," if I moved to Iraq or Africa and demanded that they stop recognizing their country's main religion so that my religious freedom would not be suppressed, I would be laughed at and probably locked up.

Go ahead and practice whatever religion you choose. But just because the U.S. is a melting pot of religions doesn't mean that the founding religion of America should be erased from our schools, monuments and public forums. The line between right and wrong in this country is drawn based on the values of the Christian religion.

Palmwalk.com shouldn't discriminate

I suggest that McCarthy create a second Web site so girls have the opportunity to rate male students ... I mean, why not?
