Disrespectful comics, in the least
I just wanted to tell you that I think the "Ship of Fools" comic in Monday's paper was done in bad taste and was irresponsible.
I'm not a Muslim myself, but given the amount of violence that has erupted because of the Danish comic that offended Muslims across the world and precipitated worldwide violence against the West, I would think it would become clear that making light of the person of Muhammadwould be unwise at the least, irresponsible and dangerous at the most.
I realize the character of the comic was meant to criticize the violence in the name of religion. However, to criticize in a way that potentially incites greater backlash seems unwise.
According to my understanding, Islam does not permit the representation of Muhammadin artistic form. This idea is something that Westerners haven't grappled with, given their long history of representing Jesus Christ in various ways.

It really is all in a name
When I read your article, "Want to live in Fairy Duster Hall?" I thought it was the last day of the semester and I was reading an article out of "The Stale Mess" (The State Press parody edition).
Is the RHA really serious? They want to rename "McAllister Academic Village" something that sounds like a desert Bigfoot or a Teletubby?
Am I the only one who thinks of Peter Pan when I hear the name "Fairy Duster?"
Get real, RHA. I think the only students who would choose those names for the new complex are those students who don't care because they won't be living there anyway.
P.S. I wonder how many students voted for "Virgin River Complex."

No fools here
Thank you, Alexander Karlsson! In his comic strip, "Ship of Fools," Karlsson examines the recent subject that involves Muslims across the Middle East who are protesting the Danish caricatures of Muhammadwith violence and destruction.
He put into three little panels the sentiments of so many people!
Everyone's religion dictates something different: Don't eat shellfish or pork. Go to church on Sunday. No, wait! Go on Saturday, and NEVER draw images of Muhammad.
Tolerance and respect of others' beliefs is required for peace. However, what people tend to forget is that only those IN the religion have to follow the rules of that religion, while the rest of us get to do whatever we please.
Something those protesting Muslims (and others of faith) need to learn is to tolerate and respect!
