Police Beat: Man steals $90 bat and runs away

ASU police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

A cricket bat belonging to a male ASU student was reported stolen Tuesday morning at the SRC. The victim was reportedly playing a game of cricket with his friends when another man asked if he could join in the game. When the man was handed the bat, he ran away toward Ocotillo Hall, the victim reportedly told police. Total loss is estimated at $90.

Two 19-year-old male ASU students were arrested Monday night at Parking Structure 5 and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The suspects were allegedly smoking marijuana in a parked vehicle when approached by an officer.

Tempe police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

A 27-year-old Tempe man was arrested Tuesday night on the 1100 block of East Apache Boulevard and charged with reckless driving. The suspect allegedly used his vehicle to cut off an unmarked police car. The suspect then slammed on his brakes in an attempt to make the unmarked police car rear-end him, police alleged. When the officer changed lanes, the suspect allegedly tried to cut him off once again. This happened two more times before the suspect was arrested, police said.

A 33-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Tuesday afternoon at University Motel, 902 S. Mill Ave., and charged with assault, disorderly conduct and extreme DUI. The suspect allegedly tried to punch the motel manager and knocked papers and plants from the front counter. He was angry because the manager refused to give him a discounted price, police said. Police reportedly approached the suspect after he had entered his car. He refused to get out of the vehicle for more than 20 minutes, police said.
