ASU provost nominated for Nevada university presidency

A search committee unanimously recommended Monday that ASU Provost Milton Glick become the next president of the University of Nevada, Reno.

"I am quite honored to receive that recommendation," Glick said.

The Nevada Board of Regents will vote on whether to offer Glick the job at a special meeting Friday morning, according to a UNR press release.

Glick said he was looking forward to Friday's vote but did not yet know whether he would attend the meeting.

"I have not had a discussion yet to see if they'd like me to do that or not," he said.

Glick said he has already interviewed with the Nevada regents, so he would not need to go through another round of interviews.

Glick will leave the position of provost and executive vice president of ASU, a position he held for 15 years, in July.

"It would be very hard to leave ASU," Glick said. "It has been an absolutely wonderful experience here, and I'm proud of what we've done. I've had extraordinary support from faculty, staff and students."

Glick said he intends to accept the position if it's offered, subject to discussions with the chancellor and board.

ASU President Michael Crow said earlier in the search process Glick would be a good university president.

"He is one of the most experienced academic leaders in America and would do much to benefit UNR," Crow said in an e-mail.
