I am so sick of hearing about Luis Gonzalez's last game. I guess he'll be missed, but all this sorrow regarding Gonzo leaving the D-Backs seems forced, mostly by his own hand.
We wouldn't be crying over him in the first place if Gonzo hadn't forced management to tell him a month ago what he already knew - he's too old to return in 2007.
Keep in mind this is the same player that whined for a week straight when he was benched in the midst of a horrible season this summer.
It's not that I dislike Gonzo, but other Arizona athletes who were more talented at their sports - like Charles Barkley (Suns) and Keith Tkachuk (Coyotes) - weren't paid nearly this much homage when escorted out of town. Neither were guys who were more influential in the community, like Dan Majerle and Jeremy Roenick. They didn't demand a Phoenix farewell tour.
Hell, even much more important players to the D-Backs' history - Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling - weren't given such a goodbye. Why does Gonzo deserve the attention when others didn't?
