Almost six weeks after the arrest of a former Sun Devil basketball player, Tempe police have completed their investigation and the Maricopa County Attorney's Office will decide whether to press charges.
Tempe resident Bryson Krueger, 22, was arrested Aug. 10 on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, narcotic drugs, prescription drugs and misconduct involving weapons, according to the police report.
Krueger was processed at the Tempe City Jail and released, said Sgt. Dan Masters, Tempe police spokesman.
The police report was just released Wednesday, but it is not uncommon to take that long, especially in complex cases, he said.
"There is a 'CSI' factor that people believe an investigation can be complete in an hour timeframe, but this is far from reality," he said.
ASU basketball coach Herb Sendek dismissed Krueger, the second leading scorer on the team in 2005, after his arrest for violating team rules, said Doug Tammaro, ASU sports information director.
Tammaro would not specify which team rules were violated, citing student privacy laws.
Krueger is no longer a registered student at ASU, according to the ASU Registrar's Office.
Krueger, along with Tempe residents Robert Michael Meadows, 21, and Omar Carrasquillo, 22, were allegedly found on the 4600 block of South Parkside Drive attempting to collect a $250 drug debt, according to the police report.
Krueger's Mercedes was allegedly at the scene. During a search of the Mercedes, about four grams of cocaine, two Ecstasy pills and a Xanax pill were found inside the center console, police said.
In addition, police allegedly found a .40-caliber handgun wedged between the driver's seat and the center console.
Meadows and Carrasquillo were not arrested, Masters said.
The drugs and the handgun belonged to Krueger, the report stated.
The investigation could not show Meadows and Carrasquillo were in possession of the drugs and the gun, Masters said.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office has not yet filed formal charges against Krueger, MCAO spokesman Bill FitzGerald said.
