Business cleans up MU

A new dry cleaning business has joined Burger King and bowling in the Memorial Union, giving students a place on campus to spruce up their nicer duds.

Arizona Budget Dry Cleaners moved from its previous location on East University Drive next to Pita Pit to a corner in the Memorial Union basement - across from the old Sun Card office - last month.

Owner Ronny Daod said his business is making dry cleaning hassle-free by delivering orders to students anywhere in Tempe and the surrounding area.

ASU is the only university in the state to have a dry cleaner on campus.

Daod said the cleaner allows students living on campus to get their dry cleaning done at the same place where they live, attend class and study.

"It's a handy location for the ASU community," he said.

Arizona Budget Dry Cleaners serves about 20 customers each day, including students, faculty, and staff, Daod said.

"More students come in than faculty, but we've seen a lot of both," said Cameron Cohen, a communications sophomore and employee at the dry cleaner.

Cohen said the MU is the perfect location for the business because it makes dry cleaning convenient for students who live on or close to campus.

Nursing freshman Sarah Gould said she thinks the campus dry cleaner would be helpful for students without cars living in the residence halls.

"More adults use dry cleaning than college-aged people," Gould said. "But I know a lot of people in sororities and fraternities who need to get their suits and gowns cleaned for formals."

The dry cleaner does everything from basic clothing and handbag cleaning to alterations and shoe repair.

Arizona Budget Dry Cleaners will also clean items made out of suede and leather, which many dry cleaners don't accept, Daod said.

Daod said he hopes to increase business by spreading the word about his new location and distributing advertisements to ASU faculty and staff.

The dry cleaning business, which has one other location at Country Club Road and Southern Avenue in Tempe, promises customers next-day service and free pickup and delivery.

"We'll deliver seven days a week to anywhere in Tempe, but we'll go further if we need to," Daod said. "Generally we'll travel anywhere within 10 to 15 miles outside of Tempe."
