Radiohead frontman ventures solo

You may not recognize his name at first glance, but the word Radiohead might be a little more familiar.

As the voice behind five landmark albums such as "Hail to the Thief" and "Kid A," Yorke released his solo album, "The Eraser," on July 11.

This album could have gone in many different directions. Considering his musical past, Yorke might have taken the easy way, not breaking what isn't broken and essentially recording another Radiohead album.

He also could have completely reinvented himself, either leaning toward the obscure (if you could go more obscure than Radiohead) or completely changing genres.

However, if we've learned anything from Yorke, it's to expect the unexpected. He was able to find a balance between both directions, by essentially reinventing Radiohead.

It's hard to deny that so much of Radiohead's sound was the influence of Yorke. Therefore, whatever he would create, with or without the band, would encompass the eerie, ambient and experimental aspects of his music.

As much hype as there was surrounding the sound of the album, there has been just as much hype surrounding Yorke's future with Radiohead.

The band's fans have no reason to lose sleep, because while Yorke has denied rumors of going solo permanently, the fact that the band played new material on a recent U.S. summer tour should be proof enough that we haven't heard the last of Radiohead ... and especially Thom Yorke.
