Six vehicles in parking Structure 5 were broken into Halloween afternoon totaling about $4,500 worth of property loss.
Four cars parked on the third floor had their driver's side windows smashed and a fifth car had a rear window smashed, police reported.
The police report on a sixth incident has not yet been released.
Five stereos, about 50 CDs, three amplifiers, three sets of sub-woofer speakers, a mechanic tool kit and several old pay stubs reportedly were stolen from the vehicles.
The car burglaries appear to be connected and apparently happened at the same time, said ASU Police Assistant Chief Jay Spradling.
At about 1 p.m., a witness allegedly saw a man dressed in dark clothing smashing car windows with a crowbar on the third floor of the structure.
When the witness asked what he was doing, the suspect allegedly ducked in between the cars and hid from him.
The witness lost sight of suspect before police could arrive, police reported.
Although one suspect was seen, it is believed multiple suspects are involved, Spradling said.
The suspect or suspects are still at large, he said.
ASU police's crime prevention unit has tips for students and faculty to help prevent crime, said Leah Hardesty, ASU spokeswoman.
"Property theft is a crime of opportunity," Hardesty said.
One way to reduce the chance of vehicle theft is to leave valuables out of plain view, Hardesty said.
If someone sees suspicious activity they should call 911 or the ASU Police nonemergency number at 480-965-3456, she added.
In order to help reduce crime on campus, the ASU Police Department has recently been approved to hire an additional 30 full-time police aides to help be the eyes and ears of ASU police, Hardesty said.
Police aides are not officers and do not carry firearms, but they help police by patrolling the campus, she said.
The additional police aides on campus will free up more time for officers to patrol lots and structures in order to help prevent vehicle theft or other crimes in the future, Spradling said.
Police aides have a greater impact on reducing "person crimes" such as robberies, assaults and sexual assaults, he added.
