Former dean named vice provost of Polytechnic

Albert McHenry's days as dean of the College of Science and Technology at the Polytechnic campus are over. After ten years as dean, he has decided to pursue new horizons at ASU.

McHenry is now the vice president and executive vice provost of the Polytechnic campus in Mesa.

"I feel honored to have the opportunity to guide the next phase of development of ASU Poly," McHenry said. "As one of the persons who more than ten years ago embraced the vision for an East Valley ASU campus and who has participated in its evolutionary development, the thrill is high indeed."

As the cultivated College of Science and Technology dean, McHenry built and attracted many students to the program. He unified all engineering, computing, science and technology-related programs under the college. He also added many new departments and programs, and significantly increased the student population within the college.

With a growing population of 6,545 students, McHenry, along with ASU President Michael Crow, strives to expand campus facilities, programs and overall student population at the campus.

The campus is currently undergoing a $103 million construction project.

"The major goal is to get the 240,000 square feet of new academic space ready for the fall 2008 classes. Our programs are attractive and our student body is growing rapidly," McHenry said.

These improvements are because of an anticipated enrollment of 15,000 students by 2020 at the East Valley campus.

"I look forward to making Poly a major star in the ASU constellation of campuses, graduating students with high-level technological competence and the professional integrity needed to make them highly sought for jobs throughout our region and beyond," McHenry said.
