If the mere thought of finals is stressing you out already, head over to the Union Ballroom at ASU's Polytechnic Campus today. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. learn and indulge in the art of relaxation.
The Complementary and Alternative Medicine Club is hosting a day of relaxation and rest for students, faculty and the community.
"We are going to show students how to possibly take some stress off when preparing for finals, the natural way," said Darla Winfrey, library assistant at the Polytechnic Campus.
"The 'Day of Rest Fest' program benefits student and staff with a natural approach to relieving stress and helping with memorization. All students relax and study in different ways; these are just some alternatives," Winfrey added.
According to Julie Pfrommer, vice president of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Club, 15 students organized this event for a class assignment.
Donations from companies in the local community have provided funds for booths of activities throughout the day.
Winfrey said there will be "tai chi demonstrations showing students relaxing, breathing exercises, aromatherapy, chair massages and a naturopathic physician to explain the process."
The Complementary and Alternative Medicine Club is expecting 200 people to turn out at the first "Day of Rest Fest."
The goal of the festival is not only to mentally relieve students of daily stressors, but also to spread the knowledge of the human health studies program at the Polytechnic Campus, Pfommer said.
"Along with these booths, we are promoting our rapidly growing major, human health studies, which integrates pre-med types of sciences and classes involving CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine), community health and other holistic medicinal techniques," she said.
"Our aim is to teach students and staff how to relax before exams and in general when sitting at a computer all day with alternative relaxing techniques."
