Hot Spot: Unlike your texts, books you'll want to read

Old Town Books

518 S. Mill Ave., (480) 968-9881

This small, mysterious store is anything but your typical used-book shop. Old Town Books carries out-of-print tomes on interesting subjects, such as crime books and old magazines you couldn't find at Borders.

As you walk in, bookcases tower overhead. Old mystery and horror books sit on one side of the store, and books on the '60s free-love movement are shelved in the back. Quirky gifts abound, like old-school paper doll sets including cutouts of child stars and traditional '50s housewives. Antique knickknacks for sale litter the store, such as birdcages and lamps.

There's also a small area upstairs in the back of the store that holds old history books and National Geographic magazines that date back to some of the magazine's earliest issues.

Old Town Books hold surprises for anyone looking for a historical flashback.
