ASU police reported the following incidents:

  • A 23-year-old female ASU student reported her laptop was stolen in the afternoon of July 25 at Noble Library.

She reportedly was studying in a study room on the second floor and left the room for a few minutes to use the restroom.

When she returned to the room, her laptop was gone, according to the police report.

A library worker noticed that a man between the ages of 25 and 30 years old — wearing a dark-colored shirt and shorts — was walking around the area and did not appear to be a student, police reported.

The worker reportedly said the man was not seen carrying anything, and after a security check of the library, he was not found, the report stated.

The value of the missing laptop is about $1,100.

  • A 45-year-old ASU employee reported a theft from an ASU flatbed truck in the morning of July 25.

A crate containing three 20-foot chains, five downs, jumper cables, two trailer hitches and 50 feet of nylon rope reportedly was stolen from the truck on July 24.

The ASU grounds crew drives the truck around the campus, and it is unknown when or where the crate was taken, police reported.

The employee reportedly initially thought his crew was playing a joke.

    Estimated loss is $600.

  • A 44-year-old ASU employee reported criminal damage and theft in the morning of July 23 on the 1700 block of South Rural Road.

The employee reportedly found a plastic container filled with gasoline sitting underneath the van he uses for work.

The bottom of the van's gas tank reportedly was found with a half-inch puncture.

The damage to the van is about $500.

Currently, there are no leads, witnesses or suspects.

The man was driving recklessly on the westbound I-10 and weaving in and out of traffic, nearly colliding with other drivers, police reported.

The man removed two cases of batteries from a display, concealed them in his waistband and attempted to leave the store, police reported.

He said he didn't have any money but reportedly knew shoplifting was a crime, according to the police report.

A records check revealed he had three previous convictions for shoplifting, police reported.

The batteries were valued at about $26.

  • A 27-year-old Tempe man was arrested in the evening of July 25 on charges of aggravated assault.

The man pointed a handgun to the head of the victim and said, "I'm going to show you what I do to friends who screw me over," police reported.

He said the handgun was not loaded and he only intended to scare the victim, police reported.

The victim reportedly was his roommate of six months.

He was transported to the Tempe City Jail.

The address where the assault took place could not be identified in the police record.
