For the second straight preseason, the ASU football team was picked to finish fourth in the Pac-10 preseason football poll.

Members of the media from the West Coast that regularly cover Pac-10 football voted in the poll.

Each member gave their first-place votes to USC, making the Trojans their unanimous choice as the conference's expected champion.

USC was selected to finish in first place by the poll for the fifth consecutive year.

The preseason media poll has predicted the correct champion seven straight seasons.

Cal and UCLA were selected to finish second and third respectively, while Oregon State and Oregon were picked to finish behind the Sun Devils in the fifth and sixth places.

UA was picked to have a seventh place, showing ahead of Washington State, Washington and Stanford.

Five Sun Devils selected as Pac-10's finest

As spring practices open on Thursday, several Sun Devils are getting more recognition.

Five ASU football players were named to the College Football News Preseason All-Pac-10 team on Friday.

Senior safety Josh Barrett made the first team with the others earning spots on the second team.

Using his potent combination of size and speed, Barrett has established himself as one of college football's top defensive players, as he has been named to the Bronko Nagurski, Chuck Bednarik and Jim Thorpe award watch lists.

ASU running back Ryan Torain leads off the cast of Sun Devil second team members, coming off an impressive 1,229 rushing yard debut as a Sun Devil last season.

ASU senior center Mike Pollack also made offensive second team after starting all 13 games last season and being named to the 2007 Outland Trophy watch list, a trophy awarded to the nation's best center.

Rounding out the second team on defense were Sun Devil defensive linemen senior Michael Marquardt and sophomore Dexter Davis, who combined for 9.5 sacks last season.

CFN also put together a Top 30 Pac-10 Players list where Torain and Barrett ranked 18th and 19th respectively.
