UA student charged with stabbing roommate

A fight between UA roommates Wednesday has left one dead and the other charged with her murder.

Galareka Harrison, 18, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon by the UA Police Department after being released from University Medical Center. She will be charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Pima County Jail in connection to the death of her roommate Mia J. Henderson, an 18-year-old biology freshman, according to UA's Web site.

Harrison has been placed on interim suspension and will not be permitted on campus until further notice, according to the site.

Campus police responded to the Graham-Greenlee residence hall shortly before 6 a.m. after receiving reports of an injury-related dispute, according to the Web site.

Police reportedly found Harrison and Henderson and transported them to the hospital.

UA did not institute a campus lockdown after the incident, but did send electronic notification to students, staff and faculty members, The Associated Press reported.

Initial reports posted on the university's Web site about three hours after police responded said the situation was "isolated and contained."

A second update added to the site at 12 p.m. said there was no immediate threat to the community and that UA police were conducting an investigation into the death.

Classes continued as scheduled Wednesday, according to the site.

Counseling services were made available to students. Parents of UA students were advised to contact the school's Parents Association office if they had questions.
