Most of the time, a road trip to California means sand, surf, sun and a whole lot of relaxation.

For the ASU women’s soccer team, however, this weekend’s road trip will be anything but a vacation.

As the women head west, they are set to take on both Pepperdine and San Diego State — two teams that coach Kevin Boyd is far too familiar with.

“I know both teams and I know both places,” Boyd said. “They are both hard places to play, and they are both two very well-coached teams.

“We definitely have our hands full going into California.”

After last Friday’s 4-2 win against NAU, the Sun Devils plan to remain focused heading in to matches this weekend.

“Our first game was average at best,” Boyd said. “It’s still so early in the season, and right now we are just trying to get our game together.”

Friday night, the Sun Devils match up against Pepperdine, a team that has had success in the past, but couldn’t pull out the win Saturday against Cal State Fullerton.

Pepperdine boasts a dominating record of 115-59-27 in the last 10 seasons, and returns eight starters.
