The Susan G. Komen On the Go Tour will visit the Tempe campus on Thursday to educate students about breast cancer.
The organization will park its bright pink vehicle — “Little Pink” — just south of the Student Recreation Complex between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The vehicle has an interactive informational center to educate students on the breast cancer movement.
Pat Elder, executive director of the Phoenix affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, said the foundation wants to get its message of breast health across to a younger audience.
Local breast cancer survivors and health care professionals will be at the event to provide breast health recommendations, self-exam instructions and inspirational videos to students. There will also be a “graffiti wall” for people to share memories and pledge support to the cause.
Elder said anyone can write a message to survivors or write their personal story on the graffiti wall. She said there is always something on the wall that will move or inspire others.
She added the Komen foundation is very appreciative of the support ASU provides, especially for the annual Race for the Cure.
Anyone wishing to register for the Oct. 12 race can pick up applications and information at the On the Go tour.
This is the tour’s fifth cross-country exhibit. It will spend over 150 days in more than 50 communities across the U.S.
