Police Beat


Tempe police reported the following incidents Thursday:

  • A 30-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of shoplifting at a Circle K store, police reported.

    Employees at the shop watched the man conceal a five-liter keg of beer and walk out of the store, according to police reports.

    Security guards in the area detained the man and held him until police arrived, police reported.

    The man was also in possession of a suspended drivers license and he had two prior arrests for shoplifting, according to the report.

    The man was also held on a probation violation, police reported.

    The man admitted to shoplifting in an interview with police, according to police reports.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail.

  • A 21-year-old man was arrested Thursday for disorderly conduct and aggravated assault of a police officer, police reported.

    Around 1:40 a.m. Thursday, several people reported hearing loud banging sounds at the intersection of Butte and Southern avenues, according to police reports.

    Police said the man and a friend woke several people in a nearby apartment complex while making noise in the street.

    During questioning, the man spit in a police officer’s face, police reported.

    The man was taken to Tempe City Jail and released pending charges, according to police.

  • An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of possessing narcotic drugs for sale, police reported.

    Police said they initially contacted the man about a vehicle possibly related to an armed robbery.

    Police found two balloons of heroin and one balloon of cocaine on the man on the 3100 block of South McClintock Drive, police said.

    The man was unable to provide proof of identification, police said.

    The man was taken to Tempe City Jail and released pending charges, police reported.
