Remember when Larry Johnson was the heir apparent to Priest Holmes and one of the most exciting up-and-coming running backs in the NFL?

How the mighty has fallen.

Johnson’s numbers had already dropped off significantly the last two seasons because of injuries training-camp holdouts.

Johnson is the latest NFL player that can’t stay on the field because he can’t stay out of trouble off of it.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Herm Edwards announced Wednesday that he was benching the two-time Pro Bowler for the second straight week because of two unrelated incidents.

Last week, it was because Johnson violated a team rule. Gee, I’ve never heard that one before.

This week, it’s because the police and NFL are investigating a report that Johnson spat on a woman several times in a nightclub. It’s the fourth time in five years that Johnson has been accused of assaulting a woman.

I hate to play the feminist card here, but as someone who loves sports and generally has great respect for athletes, this disgusts me.

Forget trying to resurrect your career on the football field, Larry. First, try redeeming yourself as a man.
