Litchfield Park residents are being warned of a door-to-door scam in which young people identity themselves as students at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
The con artists tell residents they are selling subscriptions to magazines to help fund a trip to London. The scam has been recognized by Arizona’s Attorney General’s Office.
The Cronkite School does not solicit door to door and is not affiliated with the magazine sale at all, said Frederic Leigh, associate dean at the Cronkite Schoo.
“We’ve tried to alert people to let them know to not get involved because [the magazine subscriptions] are scams, and the solicitors do not represent the Cronkite School,” Leigh said.
Leigh said he encourages people who encounter the scam to call the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, 602-876-1011, or Litchfield Park’s City Hall, 623-935-5033.
