Free shopping spree. Free personal training. Free hair care. These are the dreams of many young girls who enter pageants.
For one contestant, though, these things didn’t matter as much as being the only Latina in the 2009 Miss USA pageant, which took place April 19. Miss Arizona USA, Alicia-Monique Blanco, won second runner-up and is proud to represent her heritage.
“It was amazing to have that support in my [Hispanic] culture there,” Blanco said. “Si se puede.”
