Greek community holds talent competition

On Thursday evening, members of Greek organizations gathered in Murdock Hall for Greek Sing.

The talent competition was one of many activities planned for last week’s Greek week fraternity and sorority competition.

“[At Greek Sing], each team is given a theme and a color and is responsible for presenting their theme and color through song, dance and costume,” said Lara Klinkner, the Panhellenic adviser.

“The purpose of Greek Week is to share our commitment to helping others and to showcase the Greek community as leaders,” Klinkner said.

The evening’s themes included Michael Jackson, Disney, superheroes and Broadway.

The gray team, which included members from Pi Beta Phi, Delta Chi and Phi Sigma Kappa, took first place. The theme of their performance was Candyland, and it included the songs “Laffy Taffy,” “Candy Shop,” “Tutti Frutti” and the Oompa Loompa song from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

Courtney Sheber, a member of Pi Beta Phi who was on the first-place team, said that Greek Sing is one of her favorite parts of Greek Week.

“We put a lot of time into this year’s dance,” she said, “so it was extremely exciting for us to win and see all of our hard work come together.”

Second place was awarded to the dark green team, which was made up of members from Delta Zeta, Sigma Nu and Theta Delta Chi.

Third place went to the black team for their sports-themed performance. The black team included students of Kappa Alpha Theta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Delta Tau Delta and Delta Upsilon.

Awards were also given out for best choreography, which went to the dark green team with their boy band-themed routine, and best costumes, which went to the orange team for their ’80s-themed ensembles.

In addition to the talent competition, the awards for Greek god and goddess were presented Thursday night by the evening’s hosts, Brendan O’Kelly and Gillian Coffinger.

The Greek Goddess award went to Michelle Gutierrez, a member of Delta Zeta. The Greek God award was given to Gerald Bohulano, a member of Pi Kappa Phi.

The Greek god and goddess awards are given to the nominee with the highest number of votes in an online vote.
