Journalism freshmen Tania Mendes and Beth Wischnia were named president and vice president of the Downtown campus student government on Monday.

Mendes won out against three other candidates, including the incumbent junior Rabia Abdulmajeed, to become the Downtown campus' first elected student government president.

The Downtown government’s constitution states the winner of an election must receive more than 51 percent of the vote to be elected without a runoff, though vote tallies for this election are not yet available.

Five students were elected to senator positions: junior Charlie Jennetto and freshman Josh Frigerio from the journalism school, freshmen Amanda Cram and Ariana Heet from the nursing school, and freshman Abby Wischnia from the school of public programs.

This was the first election on the Downtown campus. Elected students will begin serving their one-years term on May 18.
