For most students, summer means one thing: a time to relax. And while we here at The State Press are also free from lecture halls and homework for a few months, we’re by no means taking a break in the workplace.

This summer, as in summers past, The State Press will be the ASU

community’s go-to source for all things news.

And if you haven’t noticed, the changes have already begun. Our Web site, formerly asuwebdevil.com, is now statepress.com. The site, recently chosen one of the top three student news sites in the nation by the Society of Professional Journalists, is only going to get better. It will be undergoing some major changes in the ensuing months, and we ask you to be patient during our growing pains. But we promise, it’ll be worth it.

Statepress.com isn’t the only thing evolving. All of us at Student Media agree: The landscape of the media is changing, and so must we.

With a renewed focus on bringing you, our readers, the most thorough, accurate news as fast as possible, look for more breaking news, more in-depth, off-the-beaten-track stories and packages that combine the best of what each branch of student media — State Press, State Press Magazine, statepress.com and Sun Devil Television — has to offer.

Although ASU’s four campuses slow down dramatically during the summer months, there are still important things happening every day. Whether it be the introduction of new technology in classrooms (see Rheyanne Weaver’s story on page 1) or the women’s golf team winning the NCAA Championship (see Gina Mizell’s story on page 9), the news doesn’t stop when our classes do.

As the baseball team competes for a trip to the NCAA Championship, statepress.com will have the story. If ASU will be further affected by the budget crisis or changes local politics, you can expect to hear about it here first.

The news you’ve come to expect from The State Press is just what you’re going to get. The past few semesters at the paper have seen tremendous growth — a tradition we fully intend to carry on week after week, semester after semester, year after year.

Every week this summer when you come to campus, visit StatePress.com, or get Twitter and Facebook updates about the latest at ASU, know we’re here working for you.

And because we are doing this for you, we want to know how to do our jobs the very best we can. Have an interesting or unusual story? Did we miss something? If there are ways to improve, we’d like to know about them.

Send your boos, bravos and suggestions to allison.seligman@asu.edu or state.press@asu.edu. We look forward to hearing from you.

Here’s to a great summer.
