Backed up

As a former campus resident, I understand the ease of being able to get out of bed 15 minutes before class. As I do not live on campus now, I also understand what a pain it is to plan an hour of travel time just to get to class.

Thank God for the ASU bus system — walking a mile plus to class in 110 degree heat would be absolutely horrendous.

My complaint is about the crossing situation on McAllister Avenue right by the Hassayampa dormitories. When I lived at Hassayampa there was no median or crosswalk; kids just walked across the road as they please, and this seemed to work just fine.

Now there is a wall median and a small space where students are permitted to cross. With the growing number of dorms on that side of McAllister, that crosswalk is packed full all the time. Cars are sometimes backed up on either side of the crosswalk, often lining up through the intersections.

Therefore, we bus riders have to wait and wait and wait to get past all these people. The only time the flow of people stops is when a driver gets angry enough to rev the engine and honk.

Most of us plan for bus delays in our travel time, but this is getting ridiculous.

If ASU has enough money to build a beautifully laid-out median with artistic walls and plants, please spend money on also getting some kind of crossing system.

A crossing guard, a stop light — anything.
