We hate to break it to you, but you missed National Homemade Cookies Day.

Yeah, we were bummed when we found out too, but felt a little better when we discovered National Chocolate Day is yet to come this month, on Oct. 28.

October — and every other month for that matter — plays host to all kinds of semi-holidays.

Some are noteworthy and very legitimate: October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, celebrated by “pink” walks and at football games around the nation. Some celebrations, on the other hand, are just that — celebrations.

So to join in with October’s lineup of National Apple Month, Pet Peeve Week and Leif Erickson Day, we’ve come up with a few more “days” for ASU to celebrate. And if these new holidays could get us a reprieve from school, we’d be OK with that too.

Blustery Wind Day: Arizona is hot, dry and stagnant. Therefore, we think the first winds of fall deserve a day of observance. When the breeze starts lifting our spirits, it’s easy to get excited for the coming winter months. Celebrate Blustery Wind Day by wearing flowy clothes and flying kites.

Caw Like a ‘Crow’ Day: Here’s a chance to emulate the president of one of the nation’s largest universities — or pretend to be a bird. If you opt for the former, make sure you say the words “sustainability,” “accessibility” or “innovation” at least once in every sentence. You can even throw in “stimulus funding” for good measure, but make sure to add the caveat that it won’t last forever. And make sure to prepare yourself to be accosted by students celebrating Pitchfork Day.

Pitchfork Day: If you’re disappointed by the lack of grassroots movements on campus, this is a day for you. Grab a few hundred of your closest friends and air your grievances in large mobs. Thanks to our mascot Sparky, ASU has an abundance of pitchforks that can be used in protest. Note: By “pitchforks,” we’re referring to the hand gestures we use when ASU makes a touchdown, not the pointy farm tools, obviously …

Do You Have a Minute for the Environment? Day: This is the day we actually stop to listen to the people with clipboards who line up on campus. But here’s the catch: We’re serious when we say “minute.” If they can’t give their spiel in 60 seconds, cut them off. We’ve already got a whole day for the Earth; let’s not go overboard.

Field Day: This one is an oldie but a goodie. It’s not necessarily new per se, but harkens back to the simpler days of middle and high school.

Imagine 67,000 ASU students spending the day out of classrooms and on the fields. Which is better: listening to a lecture or going on an all-campus scavenger hunt? Yeah, we’re really pushing for that break from school.

Silly as they may be, frivolous celebration days give us a chance to look past our mundane routines. And if you can celebrate Moldy Cheese Day, what’s stopping you from seizing the day — every day?
