Poll: Brewer facing serious challenge in 2010 Gov. race

The latest polls from Rasmussen Reports and a Cronkite-Eight Poll show that Gov. Jan Brewer could face serious challenges in the 2010 gubernatorial election.

The Rasmussen Reports poll released Monday showed Brewer would trail Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in the Republican primary of a gubernatorial race.

Arpaio, who has not announced any formal plans to run for the position, drew 47 percent of the vote, while Brewer drew 10 percent. State Treasurer Dean Martin was second at 21 percent, while Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker and Tucson attorney John Munger each received 6 percent.

The poll also projected Arpaio beating state Attorney General Terry Goddard, a Democrat, by a margin of 51 to 39 percent.

Arpaio said in a Twitter post that he “cannot ignore the results” of the poll.

About 47 percent of registered voters interviewed in the Cronkite-Eight Poll would support Terry Goddard in the gubernatorial race, while 28 percent said they would support Brewer. Another 21 percent said it is too early to make a decision.
