ASU police officer loses battle with cancer

ASU Police Department Cpl. Patrick Lindbergh passed away Monday after a brief fight with cancer.

Lindbergh worked for ASU Police for 10 years and was known throughout the force as an upbeat innovator, according to a statement released by the University.

“ASU’s Police Department is deeply saddened by the loss of Cpl. Lindbergh. He was an exemplary example of the dedication, hard work and innovative spirit that makes police personnel effective and valued for their dedication to the department,” said ASU Police Department Chief John L. Pickens. “He will be missed.”

Lindbergh played a key role in multiple ASU cases over the years, and received the ASU Police Department’s Lifesaving award after helping save a young woman’s life in 2008.

Lindbergh also served as programs coordinator when President Barack Obama visited the Tempe campus to deliver a commencement speech last spring.

Before coming to ASU, Lindbergh worked as a park ranger for the city of Chandler and the city of Mesa as well as a correctional officer for the Arizona Department of Corrections.

At ASU, he was part of the department’s motorcycle unit and member of the Firearms Instructor Team.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, at Love of Christ Lutheran Church, 1525 N. Power Road, Mesa.
