Police Beat — March 22


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday:

  • A 19-year-old man from an unknown area was arrested Wednesday around 10 p.m. near East Fifth Street and South Mill Avenue on suspicion of public consumption, being a minor in possession of alcohol, resisting arrest, being in possession of dangerous drugs, resisting arrest and civil disobedience, according to a police report.
Police contacted the man after he was seen drinking alcohol from an open container, police reported.

The man reportedly began to resist when police attempted to place him under arrest, according to a police report.

A search of the man revealed seven pills on his person, which the officers believed to be ecstasy, police reported.

  • A 26-year-old Tempe man was arrested Wednesday near Apache Boulevard East and South McAllister Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on suspicion of possession of marijuana, shoplifting and driving on a suspended license, according to a police report.
Police contacted the man during a traffic stop after shoplifting was reported near South Rural Road and East Broadway Road, police reported.

During the stop, police found evidence of the shoplifting as well as a substance believed to be marijuana, according to a police report.

A search of the man’s name revealed an outstanding warrant from Pima County, police reported.

  • A 44-year-old man from an unknown location was arrested Wednesday near South Rural Road and East Broadway Road around 1 p.m. on suspicion of possessing narcotics, according to a police report.
Police contacted the man after he was seen leaving an area known for a high volume of burglary calls, police reported.

A name check revealed a warrant from the City of Mesa, according to police.

While he was detained, the man informed officers that he was in possession of a loaded needle that contained heroin, police reported.

  • A 49-year-old woman from La Mesa, Calif. was arrested Wednesday near West Southern Avenue and South Roosevelt Street around 11:45 p.m. under suspicion of aggressive DUI, according to a police report.
During the traffic stop, police determined the woman had slurred speech and poor driving habits, police reported.

Police began a DUI investigation after they learned the woman had consumed medication, according to a police report.

A name check revealed the woman is required to have an interlock device in her vehicle, police reported.
