Dave’s Doghouse opened on the Tempe campus Monday morning alongside e2, a smaller version of the Memorial Union’s sustainability-focused café.

The two new restaurants, located in Wilson Hall, are now offering breakfast and lunch options for students looking for a quick meal on campus.

David Cheren, owner of Dave’s Doghouse, said he’s excited to be in operation.

“It’s just a matter of getting business in now,” Cheren said. “I’m anxious for people to know we’re here and to come in and try the food.”

Because the construction and inspection process took longer than originally expected, Cheren said Doghouse is opting to do a low-key opening now and wait until the beginning of the fall semester for any plans of a grand opening.

“We’ll do some promotion now,” Cheren said. “But the summer, when it’s slow, we’ll be able to work out the kinks … so that when August comes along, we’re ready to handle a long, long line coming out the door.”

George Bravo, a freshman in French studies, said he’s glad that Dave’s Doghouse finally opened.

“I’m kind of tired of the MU and I want to see more places open,” he said. “It kind of fits in with ASU’s atmosphere. It’s not like a Chick-Fil-A or a huge brand name place … this is a smaller place.”

Both Dave’s and e2 open their doors at 7 a.m. on weekdays. Students can treat themselves to coffee at e2 while trying Dave’s new breakfast sandwich — made with sausage and a poached egg.

“Everything … that we’re doing here is similar to what we’re doing at the old Doghouse,” Cheren said. “I’m still using all of the best ingredients I can find.”

At 10 a.m., Dave’s begins serving its signature Boston Dogs and chili, as well as new items like corndogs and Polish dogs.

At e2, students will get a taste of what’s offered at Engrained, including a constantly changing menu of sandwiches, soups and pastries made from organic ingredients. It will also serve a signature mocha not offered anywhere else on campus.

It’s good that ASU expanded their eating options to the west side of campus, Bravo said.

“Next year I’ll be living at Vista [Del Sol], I’m looking forward to coming here a lot,” Bravo said.

Cheren said he is ready to make an impact on ASU students’ appetites.

“I think we’re going to have the best food on campus, and that’s what I want to drive for,” he said. “I want to have the best food on campus.”
