Police Beat: July 12


ASU Police reported the following incidents Friday:

  • A 30-year-old man was arrested July 5 on suspicion of shooting off fireworks in the Wells Fargo Arena parking lot near Veterans Way and Sixth Street at about 3:15 a.m., police reported.

    The man was detained and the fireworks were impounded, according to police.

    The man was not an ASU student and was in the country on a Netherlands visa, police reported.

  • A 21-year-old man was arrested July 3 at around 2:30 a.m. on suspicion of having an outstanding misdemeanor warrant from Mesa police for failure to appear, police reported.

    The man was arrested near Mill Avenue and University Drive where he was with a three other men—ages 22, 22 and 26—and a 2002 Dodge Ram, according to police.

    The 21-year-old consented to a search of the Dodge Ram, and a green leafy substance was found inside the truck, police reported.

    The green leafy substance was impounded by ASU police for destruction, and the man was turned over to Mesa police, according to a report.

  • A 29-year-old man was arrested June 30 on suspicion of false reporting to law enforcement and having an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant from Phoenix police, authorities reported.

    The man was arrested following a traffic stop at Rural Road and Lemon Street in Tempe, according to a police report.

    The 29-year-old was taken to the ASU Police Department where he was processed and issued a criminal citation, and then turned over to Phoenix police, the report stated.

  • A 44-year-old woman reported to ASU Police that her parked car stationed right outside Chili’s restaurant near the intersection of Mill Avenue and University Drive had been damaged, according to a report.

    The incident happened July 4 sometime between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m., and the total cost of damage is estimated at $1,200, police reported.

    There were no suspects, leads or witnesses, according to police.

  • An 18-year-old woman told police July 7 that her locked bike had been stolen from a rack on the south side of the Global Institute of Sustainability, according to a report.

    The woman said her bike, cable and U-lock had been removed sometime between July 2 at around 3 p.m. and July 7 at about 8:15 a.m., an estimated loss of $100, police reported.

  • A 23-year-old man reported to police that his bike had been removed from the bike racks on the west side of the Engineering Research Center sometime between July 2 and July 6, according to a police.

    There were no leads or suspects, and the estimated loss is $300, police reported
