The news that broke on Thursday morning started a lot of conversations around the sports world.  Roger Clemens has been indicted for perjury.

I read a lot of different takes on the story, listened to some on the radio and TV, and the most popular sentiment questions why our federal government is wasting its time and money on this case.

To me, the answer is simple.  It is the law.  While some people may not think steroids in baseball is an important issue, which is not the point, Clemens lied under oath, and no matter what the case, that is perjury.

If the government makes a perjury exception for Clemens because he is a former star athlete or because the matter is only important to some people, there will then be arguments to every case.

No matter the offense or case, even if you lie under oath about flowers in your garden, you should be prosecuted.  Period.

If you have an issue with the indictment, ask the government why they wasted their time having the steroid hearings in the first place.

That is the real issue, not what took place inside the chambers.
