Police Beat: Aug. 20


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday:

A 27-year-old transient man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of three counts of aggravated assault, seven counts of disorderly conduct and trespassing, police reported.

Police were contacted by the manager of CVS Pharmacy at 802 S. Mill Ave. after customers ran into the business telling the manager to call police because a man was threatening people with a chain, according to a police report.

A police investigation revealed the man had wrapped the chain around his fists and was standing in front of people in an intimidating manner, police reported.

Witnesses told police the man yelled that he was going to kill everyone and he swung the chain around in front of several people, according to a report.

Witnesses also told police they saw the man punch another man with the chain still in his hands, but the man was unable to be located, police reported.

The man was arrested and transported to Tempe City Jail, according to a report.

ASU Police reported the following incidents Thursday:

An unknown person or persons committed aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by shooting a 22-year-old man around 10 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Community Park on West campus, police reported.

The man was shot by a handgun, causing injuries to his left hand and thigh, according to a police report.

The man was transported to Banner Thunderbird Hospital by his girlfriend, and was later released with non-life-threatening injuries, police reported.

The suspects were not located, according to a report.

An unknown person or persons committed theft on Aug. 11 by taking a bicycle belonging to a 22-year-old graduate student, police reported.

The student told police he had locked the bicycle to a bike rack outside of the Biodesign Institute on Tempe campus, according to a police report.

The estimated loss is $500, police reported.

There are no suspects, leads or witnesses, according to a report.
