Police Beat: Aug. 19


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

  • A 20-year-old Mesa man was arrested Friday on suspicion of aggravated assault, police reported.Witnesses told police they observed the man tackle a 12-year-old boy and completely submerge him underwater for as long as 15 seconds on June 17 at Big Surf Waterpark on North McClintock Drive in Tempe, according to a police report.The man ignored several attempts by Big Surf Waterpark staff to release the boy, police reported

    The man was arrested and booked in Tempe City Jail, according to a report.

  • An 18-year-old Phoenix man was arrested around 10 p.m. Friday on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs, police reported.A police investigation revealed that security at Marquee Theater on North Mill Avenue observed the man at the theater in possession of an unknown substance, and the man was attempting to pour the substance into several paper containers, according to a police report

    A test of the substance revealed the substance to be ecstasy, police reported

    The man was booked in Tempe City Jail, and released pending charges, according to a report.

ASU Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:
  • An unknown person or persons committed theft Aug. 11 by taking a backpack belonging to a 19-year-old ASU student, police reported.The backpack was left in the lower level of the Memorial Union on the Tempe campus, according to a police report.The backpack contained personal property and a laptop computer, police reported

    The estimated loss is $2,013, according to a report.

    There are no suspects, leads or witnesses, according to a report.

  • A 21-year-old man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 11 on suspicion of driving on a suspended license and knowingly displaying fictitious plates, police reported.Police contacted the man at North Scottsdale Road and East Playa Del Norte Drive in Tempe after police witnessed the man operating his motorcycle without a clearly visible license plate and without a light for his license plate, according to a police reportPolice cited the man, and turned him over to Tempe Police for a valid warrant from the Tempe Police Department, police reported.
