On Aug. 31, four Israeli civilians, including a pregnant woman, were murdered in cold blood near Hebron in the West Bank. Who took responsibility? Hamas. That's right, the “elected” government in Gaza. This act is in direct violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
In spite of the fact that Israel - Palestine peace talks are scheduled to begin in just a couple days, Hamas feels it is acceptable to condone and participate in terrorist attacks on civilians. If any legitimate government in the world took responsibility for murder, there would be a media firestorm. In this case, the story is buried and the fact that Hamas claimed responsibility is only mentioned in passing. This is a product of the climate of the international community - including the U.N. - and will continue until the world shows them unequivocally that terrorism will not be tolerated.
Israel has demonstrated time and time again that it is willing to make sacrifices for peace. Hamas has repeatedly shown that it is not. When will Israeli citizens be able to live without fear? When will the Palestinians have a government that is interested in peace, not terrorism?
