Police Beat: Sept. 14


ASU Police reported the following incidents Monday:

  • An 18-year-old male student was assaulted by an unknown suspect at 9 p.m. Saturday night, according to a police report. He was intentionally punched with a closed fist by the suspect at the 700 block of East Apache Boulevard in Tempe, police reported. The man had swelling under his eye, but he refused medical attention, according to the report. He couldn’t give any description of the suspect, police reported.
  • An unknown suspect or suspects vandalized the Sigma Epsilon Fraternity housing between 11 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday, according to a police report. There was $5,000 worth of damage, police reported. The house had spray paint on a wall and there were several items damaged and stolen, according to the report. There were three victims, including two male 21-year-old students and the Sigma Epsilon Fraternity, police reported. The case is pending and there are no leads or suspects, according to the report.
  • A laptop was stolen Thursday from an unlocked office at the Physical Science D Wing on South Palm Walk in Tempe, according to a police report. There are currently no leads or suspects for the third-degree burglary incident, police reported. The estimated cost of the stolen item is $650, according to the report.
  • Tempe Police reported the following incidents:
  • A 22-year-old man was arrested just before 4 a.m. Sunday morning for first-degree residential trespass, according to a police report. The man walked into the victim’s apartment in the Cape Cod apartment complex on Gary Drive in Tempe, and stayed in the bedroom until the police arrived, police reported. He was then detained and transported to Tempe City Jail for booking, according to the report. The victim did not know the suspect, police reported.
  • A 19-year-old man was charged with one count of strong-arm robbery, according to a police report. The robbery took place at the 1900 block of East Apache Boulevard at about 2 a.m. Sunday morning, police reported. The man allegedly punched a woman while attempting to take her purse, according to the police report. The man was under the influence of alcohol and was also charged with a count for minor in consumption, police reported. He was taken to the Tempe City Jail, where he was booked, according to the report.
