Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:

  • A 37-year-old man was arrested Oct. 11 at about 9:20 p.m. on suspicion of shoplifting from a Target located at 1800 E. Rio Salado Parkway, police reported.An investigation found the man tried concealing candy and headphones and switching his shoes for new ones, according to police.He then passed all points of sale and upon being detained by loss prevention, he kicked several times at loss prevention officers and the desk and computer in their office, damaging the drawer to the desk, police reported.

    When a loss prevention officer held his legs, the suspect leaned back and head-butted the officer in the face breaking his nose. The officer sustained a fracture to his nose and was treated at the hospital, according to a police report.

    The suspect was booked into jail and charged with criminal damage, shoplifting and aggravated assault, police reported.

  • A 19-year-old male ASU student was arrested Oct. 15 during a vehicle stop at University and Hardy Drives at about 1:30 a.m. on suspicion of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police reported.The vehicle was stopped for no license plate light, and a distinct odor of marijuana was emanating from the vehicle, according to a report.A police search of the vehicle revealed a backpack with a glass container containing marijuana that the man admitted was his, police reported.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail and booked, according to a report.

    A 19-year-old male passenger of the same vehicle was also arrested, according to a police report.

    The man had an outstanding city warrant, and was also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police reported.

    Search of the vehicle revealed a usable quantity of marijuana in a plastic baggie, according to a police report.

    The outstanding warrant was confirmed and the man was booked and released pending drug charges, police reported.

    There is a hold on the city warrant, according to police.

ASU Police reported the following incidents Monday:
  • An unknown person or persons stole an 18-year-old woman’s bike tire on the west side of Hassayampa II between 9 p.m. on Oct. 13 and 8:40 a.m. on Oct. 14, police reported.There are no leads, and the total estimated loss is $75, according to police.An unknown person or persons stole the handlebars off of an 18-year-old man’s bicycle that was locked up on the west side of Palo Verde East between 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 and 8 a.m. on Oct. 14, police reported.

    Estimated loss is $40, there are no suspects or leads, according to a report.

  • An unknown person or persons stole a 23-year-old man’s bicycle from where it was secured to a bike rack on the east side of the ASU’s Art Building on Oct. 13 between 10:35 a.m. and noon, police reported.Estimated loss is $200, according to police.
