Before the journey begins

The Metro Light Rail arrives at its stop on the Tempe campus on Monday, Jan. 1, 2011.

Next week, The State Press will launch readers and viewers on a journey to places that not all Valley residents have fully explored: the 28 stops of the Metro Light Rail.

Each Tuesday The State Press and statepress.com will hop off at a different stop to invite readers and viewers into the places and lives of people that aren’t always visible to the commuter eye.

Over the coming weeks, everything from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, apartment complexes, lesser-known businesses and the seemingly deserted post-nightlife streets of the Mill Avenue District will be explored in print and video.

The journey starts on Tuesday with a look into the Main Street and Sycamore stop in Mesa, where a popular pool club will host a tournament.

The series will travel west over the next 16 weeks. Reporters will highlight notable destinations along the track until its final stop at 19th and Montebello avenues.
