Police Beat: Jan. 28


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday:

  • A man of unknown age was arrested at the intersection of 75th Avenue and Highland Road Thursday afternoon after providing a false name and date of birth upon police contact, according to a police report.

    The man presented police with a false Sonoran driver’s license, according to the report.

    The man admitted to being in the U.S. illegally and having been deported in 2008, police reported.

  • A 25-year-old Tempe man was arrested near South Mill Avenue and East Sixth Street after investigation revealed he committed theft and aggravated assault near East Apache Boulevard and South McClintock Drive, according to a police report.

    The man reportedly entered a Tempe apartment unlawfully, struck the occupant numerous times with closed fists and knocked the victim’s phone from his hand as he called police, according to the report.

    The suspect then took the victim’s phone and fled from the scene, police reported.

    The victim suffered contusions and abrasions to the face because of the incident and later identified the suspect in lineup, according to a police report.The suspect admitted to taking the phone but denied striking the victim during the incident, police reported.

  • A 23-year-old man was arrested at the intersection of Guadalupe Road and El Camino Drive early Wednesday morning after fleeing from police, according to a police report.

    The man was first contacted by police at a Dairy Queen located near South Rural Road and East Elliot Road, where a burglary alarm was going off, police reported.

    The man fled the scene, jumping fences into the backyards of two separate residences, according to the report.

    The suspect’s shirt caught on the second fence, and police identified the man as the suspect who fled from the Dairy Queen, police reported.A search revealed the man possessed a usable quantity of heroin and a loaded syringe, according to a police report.

    The man was booked and transported to Tempe City Jail where he was released pending drug charges, police reported.

ASU Police reported the following incidents Thursday:

  • A 20-year-old man was arrested on Monday for an outstanding warrant from the Department of Public Safety for failure to pay fines on a previous charge of consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway, according to a police report.

    The man was booked into Fourth Avenue Jail and held to see a judge, police reported.

  • An unknown person or persons committed two charges of computer tampering on Tuesday afternoon by accessing an ASU student’s webcam while the student was in her dorm room located near South Rural Road and East Apache Boulevard, according to a police report.The crime occurred from an unknown location and there are no suspects, police reported.
